Too many of us are guilty of mindless eating practices. The actions we take with our food selection, and how we eat it, can impact our health. Restrictive dieting is a tactic used by dieters to be healthy, but this can have a negative impact on our physical and mental wellbeing.
Strict dieting can initially lead to weight loss; however, this can cause us to gain weight back. Sometimes we gain more weight than before we started dieting. This can really affect our self-esteem, which can lead to mental health disorders.
Once our mental health takes a hit, our physical health might suffer. To make matters worse, there are too many distractions in our lives which can prevent us from practicing mindfulness eating. Therefore, it is important to set our distractions aside to focus on healthier eating practices and reduce our stress.
Stress can also cause us to overeat or eat mindlessly. Overtime stress can also cause cortisol levels to rise, and as a result, this may slow your metabolism, cause high blood pressure, and even make you gain weight. With mindfulness practices and a change in our lifestyle, we can improve our health.
• Place your phone on silent, and if you can, try to not use it during your meal
• Try to chew your food as much as possible. Doing this can help your body digest food better and absorb nutrients
• Slow down
• Try not to rush when eating. It takes at least 20 minutes for your brain to recognize that you are full. This can help you not overeat and prevent unnecessary weight gain
